I am old.
I have owned several businesses.
Firing someone was worse than filling out tax forms.
It sucked.
I know because I was sacked several times on my way to where I was.
And never as formally as this young woman's caller did. Ever.
Did she go through school thinking that failure was not an option for her? That life was a straight path from school to the C-Suite?
Asking why it is her problem that the company overhired was significantly awful. It wasn't her fault, it was the companies. And by firing her, they were correcting their mistake. That is how it is done.
Unfortunately, but there are few other options.
I also wondered if her open arrogance mixed with a very high dose of entitlement was visible before she got fired and could have played a part in that scenario. Did she come at her managers and co-workers with that level of righteousness?
I am not glad she got fired, and while everyone is talking about the tone of the firing, that didn't bother me.
If she doesn't want to work in the cold world of corporatism, she shouldn't. Absolutely not. Go and find a position that allows you to live the way you want to.
I have been self-employed for 4 decades, and have owned a photography studio, design agency, and ad agency. I finally realized that having emplioyees sucks as much as being one, so I downsized to me.
Little ol' me.
And when I get sent to HR, I got no chance.
